APD has been granted "Special Consultative" status by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), United Nations body.
APD is one of six NGOs in India with special consultative status.
Consultative status enables APD to actively engage with ECOSOC and United Nations secretariat, programme, funds and agencies. APD can:
- Provide expert advice on disability.
- Place items of special interest on Agenda.
- Designate official representatives to the United Nations.
- Submit written statements and make oral presentation to the Council on disability.
- Undertake studies or investigations or prepare papers for the Commission.
- Use United Nations facilities.
