APD has been changing gears at different points in time since its inception.
Its is constantly feeling the pulse of people with disability even as it is looking beyond the campus in order to mainstream them with the global village.
Even as parents seek nothing more but admission for their child with disability in Nursery, APD is thinking ahead - envisioning a place for the child in the era of globalization. Post liberalization, the corporate sector in India has been a vital player in the socio-economic progress of the country. Given its sheer visibility and presence, it can be the most effective change agent in changing mindsets –- within the sector and among its stakeholders.
It is here that APD’s interventions are bringing about a definite, albeit gradual metamorphosis. APD perceives mainstreaming people with disability is, in many ways, a responsibility of the industry, considering that they are also part of its key stakeholders. It also lays the basis of forming mutually enriching relationships based on respect and benefit.
Thus, through various measures such as capacity building programmes, cross exposure visits, and employment, the industry is weaving in people with disability into the warp and weft of its fabric. Every linkage creates space for people with disability leading to a percolating beneficial impact on basic issues. For example, modification of work areas to enhance productivity or improving accessibility to public spaces. Their presence is being acknowledged not as members of a secondary management pool but as valuable assets of the core team.
