Service Agency for Rural Women and Children (SARWC)
was a small NGO serving 71 people with Mental Retardation in Mulbagal, Kolar District.
SARWC’s mission to offer appropriate education and training programmes for persons with MR and to protect their basic human rights resonated with APD and a partnership was struck between the two organizations in November 2008.
In the last two years, APD has helped SARWC re-align its training efforts into structured pre-vocational and vocational programmes. APD’s Pre Vocational courses introduced concepts of behaviour modification, communication, time management and colour identification. Vocational training courses in the production of organic manure, garland making etc were launched.
APD has been providing both financial and technical support through project planning, training SARWC staff and enhancing internal operations by improving documentation, administration, finance and resource mobilization processes.
These efforts to share knowledge and best practices in the field of disability have led to more than a threefold increase in the number of beneficiaries. Over 250 persons with MR are now benefitting from this partnership!
